In the immediate neighborhood of the Lenbachhaus and the Pinakotheken in the heart of the Kunstareal, BRITTA RETTBERG Gallery presents a diverse and multifaceted program of various positions in contemporary art. In solo exhibitions as well as curated group exhibitions, emerging and mid-career artists from Germany and all over the world are offered a platform. The exhibitions in the gallery show a broad spectrum of media, from painting and sculpture to installation and video art. With its commitment to promoting contemporary art, BRITTA RETTBERG has established itself as an important actor in a short period of time.
Britta von Rettberg, who holds a doctorate in art history, already had an established career in academia when she decided to pursue new professional paths. From her avid interest in contemporary art, she developed the plan to also devote herself entrepreneurially to current topics and issues in the art discourse. Munich offered itself as a location, as she could already access an existing network of contacts. Founded in 2017, BRITTA RETTBERG initially focused on local artistic positions. In its first two years of existence, the gallery explored possibilities with changing exhibitions and gradually developed its own identity. After this phase of experimentation, the permanent gallery program became increasingly strategic and international. With her dedicated team around director Mira Pirchtner, Britta von Rettberg continuously refined the gallery's orientation and established a firm place for herself as a forum for national and international art in the Munich.
Since 2022, the gallery has also differentiated itself spatially and taken on a more dynamic form. Under the name "Park", a project space exists within the gallery. The space is used for emerging and experimental projects and has an open and collaborative concept. "Park" is flexible and autonomous, the projects shown there can complement or counteract the exhibitions in the gallery, the expansion creates exciting interfaces, frictions and interactions.
The focus of BRITTA RETTBERG is on a multi-layered and international program, collaborating intensively with artists in order to develop and grow together. Ongoing cooperation with international curators also broadens the gallery's perspective. An important aspect of the gallery's orientation is also the presentation at renowned international fairs. In productive collaboration with curators and artists, the BRITTA RETTBERG Gallery aims to explore and expand the boundaries of contemporary art and to enable visibility for the positions represented. In Various Others, the gallerist also sees the opportunity to network even more closely with international partners, galleries and artists in order to broaden the foundations for further future expansion.
