Whether long, short, or shaved, curly or straight, hair is far more than a matter of style. It speaks of beauty and desire, of power and vulnerability, of conformity and rebellion. Hair is a potent means of expression—political, religious, cultural, and deeply personal. We use it to signal belonging, shape our identity, or captivate others. The exhibition at Kunsthalle München invites visitors on a timulating, sensory, and surprising journey through three millennia of the art and cultural history of hair. Around 200 works, from ancient to modern, reveal the powerful impact of what might at first seem commonplace.

Ob lang, kurz oder rasiert, glatt oder gelockt – Haare sind weit mehr als eine Frage des Stils. Sie erzählen von Schönheit und Begehren, von Macht und Ohnmacht, von Anpassung und Rebellion. Haare sind ein starkes Mittel des Ausdrucks – politisch, religiös, kulturell und persönlich. Mit ihnen bekennen wir Zugehörigkeit, gestalten Identität oder ziehen andere in unseren Bann. Die Ausstellung in der Kunsthalle München lädt zu einem anregenden, sinnlichen und überraschenden Streifzug durch drei Jahrtausende Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte der Haare ein. Rund 200 Exponate von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart zeigen, welche Wirkmacht das scheinbar Alltägliche entfalten kann.
